The image of its founder, Jean-Marie Bruneau, who made the first delivery of workbooks to stencils to bike in 1955, the eponymous company, which became one of the leading distributors of supplies and furniture for business, has anchored sustainable development for a long time in culture. "Since 2005, we decided to move the gear and we realized last year our carbon footprint to anticipate the direction of Grenelle de l'environnement", explains Alain Cheille, Director of the quality of the customer and the environment in Bruneau, entered the fold of the 3 Suisses International Group in 1997. "To be frank, we went on an adventure because we were not accustomed to speak of our activities in terms of CO2." "To not scatter us, we first defined a scope in which we act", he added. Being a provider and not manufacturer, JM Bruneau is therefore not included the development cycle of the products it distributes, but focused on two priority areas: waste and gas emissions greenhouse generated by the site of les Ulis, extends over 17 hectares in the area of activity of Courtaboeuf, transportation of goods for supplies and deliveries of more than 15,000 references of its catalogue in recycled paper, the gum to the Cabinet through the coffee. With some green products 3.200 which are stamped WWF or Ecolabel.
To establish its carbon footprint, which cost him 14,000 euros financed 50 by Ademe, JM Bruneau appealed to Evea cabinet. "We were already partners because we accompany them on eco-design of innovative products with some providers and students in the eco-design award," said Jean-Baptiste Puyou Evea Cabinet. But JM Bruneau is not party to zero. Before new shares, this balance has first enabled the company to measure the impact of environmental actions put in place for more than twenty years. "It was thus found that it did we save 745 tons of CO2 in 2007, without really because we were not yet connected to this new approach," said Alain Cheille.

Movement of employees
For example, JM Bruneau was the first company of the area of activity of Courtaboeuf to connect, as early as 1985, urban heating via the intermunicipal Union of garbage (Siom). Results: an economy of 6,000 euros on his heating Bill and a reduction of its CO2 emissions by 506 tonnes per year. Another initiative taken in 2003, the optimization of the tours of delivery with the Winroute software, which has cost 40,000 euros, reduced the annual transport fee of 10. In an another registry, to ensure the sanitary water heating, JM Bruneau has invested about four years ago 30,000 euros in installation of 25 square metres of solar panels, which the surface will be tripled in the term. Given the distances involved by its technical services on this site, the company replaced its Twingo 3 by electric vehicles that cause additional costs of 15 to the purchase, but reduce each 0.5 tonne per year CO2 emissions. "We are going to acquire a fourth because the safety of an electric vehicle can circulate also inside buildings," said Alain Cheille.
But black point of this carbon footprint has proved to be the impact of the relocation of its employees. "We were very surprised to find that individual transport is the position that causes the most wasteful," he says. Indeed, JM Bruneau 800 collaborators travelled 9.4 million km during 2007, to reach their place of work, while 48.5 of them elected domicile within less than 20 kilometres. In fine, this position is 10 of the total emissions of the site, valued at 25.835 tonnes equivalent CO2. To go back, JM Bruneau is considering the establishment of a plan of travel of the company with tracks such as the loan of bicycles or carpool. "It could also introduce carbon bonuses to encourage employees to use a public transit system, which remains to be implemented with other companies in this area of activity," suggests Jean-Baptiste Puyou.
